Afterwards, Joel worked as a Nuclear/Environmental Engineer for the U.S. Department of Defense (Navy) in Charleston, SC and Vallejo, CA on the nuclear submarine refueling team.

While attending the University of South Carolina School of Law, Joel served as President of the Intellectual Property Law Society and Business Manager of the Environmental Law Journal. He also worked as a Legal Writing and Oral Advocacy Teaching Assistant. In addition to his legal and engineering background, Joel is also an entrepreneur.
